You can engage in your child’s learning at home and school in many ways. The school council provides advice on school matters and helps to strengthen the important relationship between schools, families and their communities. The council includes family members, school staff and community members.
Parents are invited to join us for all meeting dates. All meetings are held in the Library, found on the second floor. Meetings start at 7:00 p.m. and usually end between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m.
The MCI School Council is made up of the following (minimum membership):
- 6 parent members otherwise defined by constitution - Chair and Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer, and two Council members;
- one student rep;
- one community rep;
- school admininstrator;
- one teaching staff; and
- one support staff
Some responsibilities of Chairs / Co-Chairs are to:
- call school council meetings, prepare the agenda and chair the meetings;
- communicate with the school principal, senior Board staff and trustees, as required;
- ensure that:
- minutes are recorded;
- parents are consulted,
- fundraising meets Board policies, and
- the constitution is reviewed annually.
The members of the school council are accountable to the other parents they represent and must:
- Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues.
- Regularly attend school council meetings.
- Participate in information and training programs
- Act as a link between the school council and the community.
- Encourage the participation of all parents within the school community.
- Participate on sub-committees and assist with tasks of the school council.
- From within the council members, one Treasurer and one Secretary
- Treasurer – reporting to council the finances of the council account
- Secretary – recording and keeping meeting minutes
